Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Powys County Council’s Welsh Labour Group Leader, has said the Council is still failing children and families.

His comments come after a performance report considered by the Council’s Health, Care and Housing Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday, 12th September 2018 highlighted 25% of children did not receive child protection monitoring visits within the statutory timescale.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance said:

“This Children’s Services Performance Report is concerning and the Council’s own data shows one in four children are not receiving child protection monitoring visits within the required timescales.

“This puts children and families at risk so the Council must explain how it intends to put it right.

“I desperately want the Council to succeed in its efforts to drive up standards in Children’s Services but we have to be open and honest about the challenge and the performance of this Conservative and Independent-run Council. Over the last few months, the number of child protection visits undertaken within the statutory timescales has decreased and that’s just not good enough.

“Children and young people in Powys deserve better.”
