Residents have been landed with an inflation busting 9.5% rise in their Council Tax after Conservative and Independent Councillors in Powys lined up to vote through the eye-watering tax hike.

At the Council budget meeting, local Councillor Matthew Dorrance spoke out against the plans and he voted against the 9.5% Council Tax rise

Matthew said: “The Council is asking residents to pay more but we are all getting less. Too many of our local services have been cut and the Council is planning on cutting even more this year.

“I know austerity is making it harder for the Council but this Council Tax rise is unaffordable and I’m really worried about what it will mean for families in Brecon.”
